Such carte-de-visite (CDV) pictures are relatively common and I imagine Peiser studios gave these out by the dozen as advertising material. Interesting though. It looks as if the large camera was fitted with a dummy lens while its real lens was used to take the picture. I don't think I'd trust that tripod to take the strain of being leaned on either!
