170K X 300K pixels Image

Hello,
I'm a new user of this forum, and I am not a computer expert either.
I would like to create a large image as a photomosaic of 14.159 pictures.
I calculated that, not to lose definition,
the final output file should be around: 170.000 pixels X 300.000 pixels
It will be a kind of Panoramic Photo, but it will be the mosaic of all the 14.159 single photographs.
My question is:
Which are the hardware requirements (Processor/RAM/Graphic Card) to work with comfort on such large scale image?
Thank you in advance for your answers,
Best Regards,
Luigi Mazzei

You can print 14159 separate pictures, one at a time, with ordinary processor/RAM/graphics requirements.

If you want to software align the images, such that the result is close to seamless, as if commonly done for panorama photographs, then you have much more work.

I suspect that no-one has tried to do this with current software and hardware.

You might get more suggestions if you say where the single photographs come from.

Thank u guys for your answers.

The 14.159 photos will come from people.

I'm not sure i can use one of those software suggestions, as the mosaic come with a background.

Sorry for my english, i try to explain.

The background for the mosaic will be 170.000 x 300.000.

The background is like a drawing.

On this "background", i will paste the 14.159 images individually.

(It might takes months, but I'm ok with that).

The 14.159 photographs will not cover all the background pitcure.

Once this file 170.000 x 300.000 is ready, i will use "Maptiler" software to divide it in tiles, and to turn it into a like Google

Map zoommable image.

Hope this clear,

Thx

Are you saying the final image will only be viewed on computer, and that the image will be split into smaller files?

If that's the case, then why are you making such a large single file to begin with? Why not work on it in sections small enough for an affordable computer to work with? All that's needed is to overlap each section sufficiently that individual pictures don't need accurate abuttment.

A 300K pixel wide image could be printed out to 1000 inches wide (that's over 83 feet!). Such a ridiculously large print could only be produced in sections anyway. And even if you optimistically say that the average domestic computer screen has a "resolution" of 900 x 1600 pixels, that's approximately 35,340 screenfulls of image data. Nobody is going to scroll through that at 100% magnification.

I suggest you get a bit more realistic with the overall image size or size of image tile to be worked on.

Guys here I have an update.
I created the 160.000 X 300.000 pixels image.
When saved on Hard Disk the file size is 4.7 GB, but while working on photoshop it says 110/120 GB.

Problem 1) With my current laptop it takes more than 20 hours to save it. (I saved it with compression thou)

Problem 2) The image also contains a lot of layers, and when I start to work on the file, like adding objects and moving layers (please consider I'm not using filters, i'm simply creating a kind of mosaic), at the begininng Photoshop responds fast. But more things I do, more time it takes to esecute the command. After 20/30 minutes it becomes very slow, taking up to 2/3 minutes to move a layer or to add a new object... And the time keep increasing up to 5 minutes... (I tried also to remove "undo actions" but improvement is marginal)

Problem 3) I stopped to work on it as was strenuos and as I decided I need a new desktop for this project. But when I will resume my work, i estimateed the images size may increase over 10 Gb.

This is my current Laptop: DELL INSPIRION 15-3521 (Pentium 2127U 1.9 GHz / RAM 4GB / HD 500GB / Win 8.1 64 bit)

So this is the new desktop configuration i would like to check with you:

CPU: i7-6850K 3,6 GHz
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4 64GB (4x16GB) 3.000
GPU: Sapphire AMD RX 480 8GB
STORAGE: Samsung 960 EVO NVMe SSD 500 GB
STORAGE: WD Black 3.5 7.200RMP 2TB

According to your experience do you think will it be enough to work on my project?

Do you have any suggestions to change some of the components?
Please consider my goal is to reduce drastically the saving time and being able to work on the image without minutes idle time beetween commands.
(If printed the image will be big as much as a soccer field. But I don't have to print it.
When I will have finished to work on it, I will use krpano software to tile the image and making it viewable/zommable like google map)
Thanks a lot,
Ciao
Kel
