Again, these deals (not including the refurb D500 Dieter mentioned, which is separate) are for today only, December 12, but of course Nikon may extend or bring them back later on, depending on how much stock they have on hand. By the same token, Nikon may run out of stock before the end of the day.

Amazon UK and Amazon.de have special offers of new D750 at present with a bit higher price in the German market than in the UK.
Perhaps a sign of a new body?
It would not be the first time Nikon (or Canon) sold "refurbished" cameras that were actually new as far as one could tell to clear out stock.
Perhaps my hopes for a new updated body are just too high :-)
Cheers

Walter, I liked the specs on the 810, especially the optimized 64 ISO and the ability to crop like crazy to spare me lugging that beast of a 70-200. I checked and I believe the 810 was released in April 2014, 2 years and 8 months. I am hoping the replacement is coming soon and has more dynamic range. I don't need more megapixels or usable iso higher than 12800, but perhaps faster burst rate would also be nice. My d700 is getting long in the tooth but does what I need and I can work around the shortcomings on burst rate- I am a portraitist and it would be nice if my camera could keep up with my strobes- I am printing larger of late so tripling the megapixels to 36 would be more than enough for me. I hope they don't focus on the megapixel race and try to match canon's 50 mp. I agree with Shun, cameras aren't obsolete as fast as in the early two thousand when there were huge improvements in consecutive releases.

Nikon announced the D810 on 26 June 2014: http://www.photo.net/nikon-camera-forum/00cfUw
However, at least in my opinion, the D810 is a rather incremental update from the earlier D800/D800E, which were introduced in February 2012. Therefore, the D800/D810 series is approaching 5 years old.

Clearly Nikon now has a better AF module in the Multi-CAM 20000 on the D5 and D500, and pro memory cards are now XQD (or CFast from Canon, etc.). 4K video is common. It puzzles me why Nikon is still selling the D810. That is exactly why they need to discount it significantly.

Shun, thanks for your insight. I appreciate all the Nikon information you have passed on over the years. I am patiently awaiting the next model. It should be a major upgrade from my workhorse d700 that has served me well for over 6 years. I certainly got my money's worth out of that tool. It took a lickin and kept (keeps) on clickin. One corner of the battery pack is completely worn to metal. I can't even estimate the miles it has been on my shoulder.
