anastasia_matthews
Hello,
I have four StudioPro strobe lights. I bought 4 strip softboxes, thinking they medium sized, but they are very tall (they touch the ceiling of my shed LOL). The company only sells this size, no smaller sizes are available. I wanted to know if I could use another brand of softboxes on these lights? So far, I haven't heard of photographers mixing different brands of equipment this way.

Thank you for your responses.
Jochen_S
I understand 4 identical lights being used one for each corner of the soccer field.
In a studio setting I'd rather mix different ones, like a huge and a small softbox plus maybe even a standard reflector and a pair of additional lights with suitable reflectors to brighten my backdrop.
I am surely not the most skilled or seasoned product (or even portrait?) photographer on earth, but if you aren't shooting ladies I don't understand a softboxes everywhere approach.
I am not familiar with your lights. According to Amazon they come with apparently very popular Bowens style reflector mount. There are a lot of not overly expensive light formers offered for that mount; we use it at work too and bought different unknown brands from various retailers. I am not bothered about the mix. - The lightmeter tells what I adjusted it too and I doubt different softbox or reflector brands to generate significantly different color temperatures that would ruin my pictures but I am admittedly not overly critical.
Before you decide to ditch your strip softboxes: Could you benefit of positioning (some of) them horizontally? Maybe you are short enough to walk under a horizontal one mounted to your ceiling?
henryp
You can use any brand softbox on any light source. To attach a softbox you either need a speedring whcih is designed to match your softbox to your light or you need a softbox like those made by Westcott which attach like an umbrella and do not require any speedring at all.

Henry Posner
B&H Photo-Video
Henry Posner B&H Photo-Video
