Uhooru
Are the tabs on the cards somehow locked? What is the pop up message?
Ed_Ingold
A card formatted on another camera or device may be unreadable. It could be defective too.

If a computer can recognize the card using a card reader, back up any data you might wish to save and reformat the card in FAT32 format. The camera should recognize the card at this point. It's best to also format the card in the camera in order to install the necessary files and folders for that use.

Uhooru
I'd say not if the other card works fine. But when you turn the camera on can you still get into your menus, even with the unreadable card in there? If so. Find the format card and try formatting it if you haven't tried that yet. If you've already tried to format the card in the camera then its probably the card. dump it and move on. If the camera is locked and you can't get into the menus, then I don't have a clue what the problem is.

phule
Dave,
As I'm sure you've done, there's some discussions elsewhere about the cards not working in one Sony camera but working perfectly fine in another. Do you have a big-box store nearby that sells Sony cameras? You might take the cards that don't work with you and see if 1) they work in any other Sony camera and 2) they can be formatted in said camera. Maybe just using another camera will "reset" whatever it is that's causing the RX100 to not read the card.
It's a bit of a stretch, especially if you don't have a store nearby with stock, but it might provide additional data.

Also, if you're at the big box store already, buy another card and see if the new one fails in the RX100. If it does then I'd say the RX100 needs to be serviced by Sony.
