New KEH page terrible

George,
If you simply put "ugly" or "in stock" in the search , no, you're not likely to get anything that makes sense. If you search for a particular item, say a Canon XSi, or Tamron lens, you get results that can be refined by grade (ugly). If you choose "Cameras" in the subject bar, then enter "in stock" in the search bar, no, you don't get anything. It's too broad. The site is spiffy and new with that modern look to it, but the search worked fine for me with everything that I entered. Frequently I don't do well with new web sites until I spend time figuring out how they work. However, with the new KEH I found it easier to locate items, especially with the search.

Perhaps you need to be more specific in your search and use both of the search fields. It's also possible that the items you seek aren't available in ugly or aren't in stock, so they won't show up. Good luck with it.

Yes, its not quite as bad as you say. As Laura says, those are not search criteria. They are to limit or refine the results of a search. However, I found they do not work. Search for "Leica" and you get lot of results. Attempt to refine the search to show only Leica "cameras" - no results. Search for "Leica M3" and you get Leica M3s. The search algorithm is not at all intelligent and I am afraid they seem incapable of fixing it. It is better than it was, but not much. Contrast it with B&H's search and refinement criteria, which are excellent.

Robin,
If I put 'cameras" in the category field, then enter Leica in the search box, I get 2 pages of Leica cameras, most body only. It's interesting that things didn't work in the direction you took. While on the Leica page of cameras, I tried to sort by grade. I couldn't get any grade to sort out, which is cumbersome. Hovering over the grade/folder icon on each camera and a box appears stating that there are multiple grades, and to look at the specific camera for details. I imagine you saw these things and I only mention them for the benefit of those who have not.

I agree with you, it's not as refined or smart as B&H, but it's an improvement. I would imagine that the excellent service provided by KEH will remain the same, no matter how imperfect the web site might be.

Just when I got use to their old web page, they changed it again. Last time I checked, I had all sorts of problems trying to purchase something online, so I had to wait and call them the next day. Hope they fixed it by now...

When I plug in a specific search, such as a specific model in the search window, I do not get what I am looking for. I get a whole lot else, but not that! It may be buried there, but it may not.

Recently I was trying to find a replacement for a dead Fuji underwater camera. I found it in one category, but not in the other. When I looked specifically for it, I could not find it again. Eventually I ran it down, and bought it, and as usual, it was a good bargain, but I initially thought it had been sold. Maybe I shouldn't complain, as the site might deter others from buying what I want, but it can be pretty frustrating.

Seems KEH is under new management.

"KEH was bought out by a NY investment group and the company is no longer what it used to
be. The new CEO is out of touch and out of date. They are replacing the old staff with their own
people, including the CEO and working their way down. They don't know the camera industry
and don't appreciate the staff that have been there for years..."
This employee review was from 4 Feb 2016:

"In the last three years, there will have been 4 CEOs, 3CFOs, 2 CIOs, 6+ CMOs. They
can't stop turning over the senior management ranks. Private equity ownership have no
idea what they are doing. The culture is abysmal. The staff is completely demoralized."

Source: https://www.glassdoor.com.au/Reviews/Employee-Review-KEH-Camera-RVW9459123.htm

Laura,

Maybe they have fixed it. I did this last month. I usually get to what I want, but it is a strikingly "dumb" search. ebay or B&H algorithms are so much better. I suspect some of the issue is that the items in their database do not have fully completed, or erratically completed fields, so cannot be searched for reliably using all the refinements that are available, in which case this may be a data entry issue. Certainly given their turnover of cameras I would not be surprised if data entry was the main problem.

KEH certainly has tons of used equipment, but I've found you can get better deals from B&H and Adorama used departments when the same items are available, at least for the few used items I've purchased.

As for the new website, it has improved since its introduction, but I found the old website easier to use even though more primitive.

Has anyone here, who buys from KEH, like I do, found that the new site is impossible to find search results?

http://www.photo.net/classic-cameras-forum/00chQj
I hate to say this, but yes, up to the point that I finally gave up and stopped buying them. Maybe I`m stupid, but I sincerely cannot understand why they changed the great old site policy, where navigation was a buyer`s pleasure and many times I used to even buy things that I was not looking for. It was to me the world´s greatest photographic bazaar. I used to love shopping and buying at their site.
Now, I find navigating at their site an awkward experience, even to search for a specific item.
For sure there were reasons, technical or whatever, that forced such change. And I hope it`s only a very few people`s problem; I sincerely wish them all the best.

Not again I wish these fat-cats would sit on their money and leave staple companies alone. Warren Buffet bought Duracell a few months ago. He wants a 150% profit from his investment.
