korin
Number 1 card reader will not keep the card in if you keep card in with finger camera sees it. Two OK but need to get one fixed. Is this a shop job?

ShunCheung
Something similar happened to the top SD card slot on a friend's D7000. Perhaps the spring inside had some problems. Fortunately, in her case the problem went away on its own after a little while (a few weeks).

ShunCheung
Apparently the OP is talking about the top memory card slot on his D7100. To repair or replace that, you need to take the D7100 apart.
johne37179
Shun, is the card reader setup in the D7100 like the one on my D7000? I suspect that their may be a small bit of debris that is preventing the lock from engaging to hold the card in place. I would try to blow out the space with a can of compressed gas and the small tube. It does appear that there is one small screw that holds each of the card readers in place. Does removing that screw enable the removal of the card reader? I would blow the compressed gas into the space with a card in and with it removed to try to move the lock to see if there is anything that has gotten in to prevent the lock engagement. If it were the spring I would suspect intermittent failures before a complete stop.
