Anyone's been to Iran shooting street/travel pics?

Leslie,
I've been to Iran twice (05 & 08, I think) and found most people to be incredibly friendly. A huge percentage speak English. Most people are amenable to having their photo taken. However, I always put my camera in my right hand and elevate it to head level. Then, I point the lens somewhat obliquely in their general direction to make it clear that I am about to take their photo. If they give no indication of objection, I proceed. That said, I have spent most of my time in Iran in Tehran, Shiraz, and Esfahan, the three most cosmopolitan cities in the country. I suspect that in more fundamentalist regions the rejection rate might be higher than what I experienced. The bridges in Esfahan are spectacular at sunset (and after dark if you have a tripod). I should have a few folders in my portfolio from Iran. Jim

Joseph, I don't put much stock in

US state dept travel warnings.

Though I'm sure there are some

truth in them, but some are

laughable. For example,

communist Laos is the friendliest

nation in all my travels. They

and the Burmese are the nicest

people, as a nation imo. The US

has a warning for laos too.
