pete_s.
Nice, even though 35mm is my favorite focal length I can't help but think the 55mm f1.2 looks better.
manuel_garcia5
The 55mm is becoming my favorite lens.
Wouter Willemse
Two quite different beasts; to me, anyway. I usually prefer the rendering of old lenses, and I also do in this case. No doubt the 35mm f/1.8 will perform better in tests, with resolution charts, brick walls and so on, but the atmosphere and character that those old fast lenses can bring just do the trick with the right scene. The first photo has it written all over it, very very nice - exactly the kind of thing I like my 50mm f/1.2 (which should be a bit more corrected, though) for.
That all said, the 35mm is probably going to turn out a more easy to tame and control animal, dependable workhorse in strange light and difficult conditions, while the 55mm is a bit a prima ballerina that doesn't quite do the normal work. Having a "bog standard" 50mm f/1.8G alongside the speciality lens may sound excessive, but (in my own experience anyway) is plain useful.
manuel_garcia5
My thoughts exactly. The 35mm is the FX version. Most shot wide open.
andylynn
Nice. I used to have a 55/1.2 but I think yours is better than mine was.
michael_bradtke
I like my 55 f/1.2 very much. I find the way it draws an image to be very pleasing. I find that shooting multiple shots of the same image help with nailing the focus especially when I amusing it wide open.
manuel_garcia5
I do the same thing when shooting the 55mm f1.2 wide open, a few mm of movement can cause you to be out of focus. From f2 on it's not as big a deal (at least for me). But it is a bit tricky wide open.
