Hi Y'all!

I'm going to startoff with a couple more images from the trip, first a somewhat humorless bird image.

"A TURN for a TERN" (maybe only a naturalist finds it funny?
A little more fun. How does a bear take care of an itch on it's head?
Very carefully!
The last image was a joke on me. Two days ago I got up at 1:30 AM drove north of Indianapolis to find "dark skies" (hah) to see if I could image the meteor shower. I took two cameras with me, K3 with a 15mm f2.8 Russian fisheye and a 20mm f2.8 Pentax A lens on the K5iis. My exposures were 30 section ISO 800 or 1600 and after I took the image I would have to wait for the cameras to process the image before it could take another. Anyway, I didn't see a lot of meteors, on and off clouds and humid (decreased clarity) prevented it. I did see maybe 6 in an hour and a half. Unfortunately it was always where my lenses weren't pointing. I only got one, very pathetic image of a small one.

I went out Thursday night and camped under the stars at our nearby recreation area, Hartman Rocks. It was a little chilly but beautiful and the coyotes provided a nice soundtrack to the action! I had two cameras going so I could cover different parts of the sky at the same time. I have some nice individual photos and also made some composites. Friday was kind of sleepy at work.
I also had a nice weekend riding bikes and hiking with my family while we still have a little bit of summer left!

Good for you for trying. I'm pretty spoiled with my dark skies although my city skyline shots need to happen far away from home. :)
It sounds like you may have either High ISO or Long Exposure noise reduction enabled. For shoots like this I turn them off and manage noise in post so I can take successive shots and not have to wait for the dark frame.
