joseph_smith3
Image Cards Resurrected after Wash and Dry I am embarrassed to admit that my Lexar 64 GB 2933x XQD card just finished a wash and dry cycle as I had left the card in my pants pocket. I was reluctant to insert it into my D 500 and have it ruin the camera once I turned it on. I had the same concern for about trying to read anything on it using my win 7 pc and my card reader. I have great news to report. I followed advice from a friend and placed the XQD card in a bag of rice for about five days to remove any traces of water. Then, In my win 7 pc, I plugged in my card reader and then entered the XQD card. Win 7 recognized it and allowed me to open the file folders on the card. The images were still there ! But the card is not yet ready for use. You need to do a low level format to remove any bad sectors on the card and this is best done on a Win pc and not a MAC. Here is how to do one: Insert the card in the card reader and then click on My Computer or This PC. (I used Start and clicked on Computer.) Find the card and right click on it and select Format. Then USNELECT the Quick Format box and let it run. It will take a while. If the format is successful, any bad sectors will have been deactivated and the card should be safe to use. Then reformat it in your camera before using it. You may need one more step. I did. Look at the card to see if any rice grains are in it. If there are, tap gently on the top of the card to dislodge them. Joe
ShunCheung
I have accidentally put an SD card (I think it was SD, but could be CF; that was a few years ago) through the wash and dry cycle. The card was inside its plastic case, and there was no damage to the card at all.
User_276104
The gate remote at an apartment we used to live in went through the wash once. I was afraid I'd have to cough up $100 to have them replace it, but it continued to work fine!
Matthew Currie
I once got confused while eating crackers and downloading pictures and picked up the SD card and bit into it. Tough plastic, fortunately, and the pictures survived, but I can testify that SD cards are not flavorful.

erik_christensen3
I did it with an Sandisk CF last year, and nothing happened. I left the card unused for a couple of days, and all photos were still there, and I am still using the card! I of course blamed my wife, as the washing machine is far to technical for me compared with my D810 -:)
