Can the Jobo reel fits into Paterson tanK?

Recommended Posts

1). Yes, they fit. Jobs reels are slightly smaller, so they fit into Paterson tanks (loose fit). I`m referring to the reel size, exclusively.
2). Well, the Jobo center column doesn`t fit into the Paterson`s tank base, but it can be somewhat centered on it, and it hardly fits into the Paterson`t cap (too tight), so the spin capability is lost. Also, the Jobo column is different in length, very likely the length should be adapted (cutted).
Actually they doesn`t fit, but maybe after some DIY work someone can make them work, badly. I`d skip the idea, sincerely I think it is not worth it.
3). No, Paterson reels have a slightly larger diameter, they don`t fit into the 1500 tanks.
Don`t know why you are asking this; FWIW, Paterson reels are a better manufacture to my taste. Jobo ones are a cheap copy.

Jose, I want to develop 35mm film and 16mm film all at once in one tank.
I have a Paterson tank with Paterson center column and 35mm reel, then I have two Jobo 16mm reel
but the Jobo 16mm reel does not fit the Paterson column. So I bought a Jobo tank with center column
but without Jobo 35mm reel.
I cannot find any Paterson 16mm reel, what I have so far are Jobo 16mm reel and Nikor 16mm
stainless steel reels, never came across Paterson 16mm reel
Looks like there is no way I can mix 35mm film and 16mm film in one tank, probably I
have to develop 16mm film with Jobo reel in Jobo tank and develop 35mm film in Paterson reel
in Pateson tank.

Maybe the Jobo reel can be modified, too.
Usual Jobo 1500 series reels are made of two parts that are moveable to use with different film formats. There is an "inner" part that fits into an "outer" part, that is, the top and bottom part of the reel.
The Paterson column fit inside the "outer" part of the Jobo, so if you find a way to cut the "inner" insert and to attach it to the other part of the reel, you will have enough room to use the reel with the Paterson center column (actually a bit more, you may need to add some material to hold it tight).
But... given the cost of developing solutions, I believe you`d be better using a dedicated tank for each format. Of course a multi format tank could be time saver, but it`s the only advantage, I guess.

With Stand Developing you don't need to worry about the twisting business as the reels just sit quietly after a couple of shakes and do it all themselves, so as long as you have enough developer to cover what you have in the tank, and can make it lightproof, of course. I think you could be good to go with what you have and no additional expense.
