judy_beatty
I recently saw a collection where the alphabet was shown on the wings of various butterflies. Do you know who did this stunning collection, and where I can find it again? I saw it at a local flea market and when I went back to get it , it was gone....of course. It has intrigued me ever since and I'd love to find it. Thanks for any help...Judy
don_baccus
Portland Audubon (503) 292-WILD, has carried it in the past and may still have it. They'll sell over the phone and ship to you if you want (I was on the board for twelve years). I don't remember who did it, but as a certified nature freak I gotta admin it's very, very cool. peter_may
The photographer who first did this was a biologist/lepidopterist/photographer named Kjell Sandved. I think he was associated with the Smithsonian Institution at the time. I'm sure the idea has been copied many times since then - I think Sandved first did this back in the 70's or 80's. roto
You might want to know that I ordered one of those posters from Sandved (www.butterflyalphabet.com) and got nicely ripped off: the poster was damaged and I'm still (two months after the fact) trying to get my money back after I was promised a new poster that never came. I sent a number of (very polite, I assure you!) requests that they explain what was happening. Finally today I got an answer (as I said: I HAVEN'T got my money back, contrary to what they say): On Wed, Jun 26, 2002 at 10:25:39AM -0400,WingsABC@aol.com wrote: Dear Tittletatara, You got your money back. We sent you the info when it was sent. That the poster was damaged it not our fault. My boss's comment this morning; "That stupid ass got his money back, he must like to quarrel" That sentiment is very close to my own. Have a wonderful life. Yours Helen Applegate Nice, isn'it?
