Nikon P7700 back button focus

I want to set up a P7700 for back button focus. But although it has a AF-L button I do not seem to be able to disable focus on the shutter release.<br>

Does anyone know if this is possible?</p>

<p>The AF-L button is used to lock focus (and also exposure if desired) when you use focus-and-recompose; the same can be accomplished by pressing the shutter release button halfway.<br>

The P7700 cannot be set up for back button focus - AF operation is always initiated with a half-press of the shutter release button.</p>

<p>Thank you for the confirmation Dieter ....it does seem strange that it can not be turned off.</p>

<p>I looked through the instructions, and there's no "AF-ON" setting in the menu. It seems odd that there is not, as so many other settings look just the same as those on the DSLR's, and I would not be surprised if it could be done with firmware. Maybe you should write to Nikon and complain, in hopes that some upcoming firmware update will include it.</p>

I expect it would be a simple firmware fix but unlike Fujifilm, Nikon is not going to release firmware for a discontinued model.</p>
