Nice to meet you!

Nice to meet you guys, I'm not usually good at introductions so forgive me if I ramble a bit.

Anyways, my name's Robert and while I really enjoy photography I am also super new to it. I did some basic stuff in high school, but only rediscovered my interest in it recently in a sort of "something I should do to help me move forward" kind of epiphany. I've only been back into it for about 3 weeks now, so I'm obviously still trying to get a hang of the basics and figure out what I enjoy shooting and what I'm good at.

I don't have too much stuff yet. My dad (who turned out to have an interest in it as well) did give me his old Nikon FG, with some accessories, bag and tripod. But digital-wise I'm currently stuck using my Nexus 6P phone until mt friend comes back from his trip as he's going to sell me his Fujifilm Finepix DSLR camera. So far I've taken a bunch of pictures with both cameras, and messed around with pixlr (at the recommendation of a coworker) for some basic editing. I've also downloaded PaintToolSAI and GIMP, but I haven't touched them yet as I only needed to do basic editing so far.

My main goal is is turn this hobby into hopefully something more, whether it's a lifestyle, job or something else. I'm still a bit lost on where to start properly besides taking and sharing pictures online. So any help in that regard would be great. If you have any advice or questions for me feel free to ask!

EDIT: Oh I forgot! I also have a flickr account here; https://www.flickr.com/photos/azureturbo/

Welcome to PN! I looked through a few of your pictures and love the washed out aesthetic quite a few of them have. The taking pictures and posting online is great, it's helped me a lot from my beginnings [which was a little over a year ago!] but I still have a lot to learn, and the technical advice on this site in pretty indispensable. I'd also highly recommend GIMP, it's free for one and with plugins can be just as good as photoshop, whilst not being too difficult to pick up.
As for starting, I'd do what I'm doing and spend some time building up your portfolio in case you need it later, it'll all be in one place
Also the FG is a nice camera, I've used one and was absolutely amazed at how small it is
