Well it's been an interesting few days here in the Mid-Atlantic area, as we had a ample (and as it turns out, very accurate) warning of a doozy of a blizzard. Started coming down last Friday, brought us almost 30 inches to shovel, and we just a couple hours ago - Tuesday night - finally saw the county trucks come through to plow. Happily, we had plenty of supplies (and ibuprofen for sore snow shoveling muscles).

The road crews did what they could in advance, and really put down the road salt - piles of it. I suspect at least a few fellow Nikonistas show some snow this past week? Share!

00diCT-560459684.jpg.7ec17ddd0c828ce410e503fe7ccb6ba8.jpg

Here in MN we have had less snow than the "normal" 60 inches or so. Still, its been dreary. I recently purchased a used Nikkor 50mm 1.8 D lens and have been playing around with it. My only other 50mm is a really sharp 1.4 AiS, but focusing manually with a digital camera has been a challenge. I just figured out I can use auto fine tune with the new lens. Here's some examples using our cats this morning. After testing for the most pleasing out of focus rendering, or bokeh, I find that f 2.5 works well for this lens and still retains the shallow depth of focus.
