john_dorio1
I have a VH-R field camera and don't have a manual. Does the white and red dots have to line up to shoot a straight picture with no rise or fall? Are there any other pitfalls to consider for one without a manual? garrett_adams
John I too was in the same boat without a manual. Following an online lead I e-mailed a gentleman named Chiaki Watanabe at Komamura Corporation's International Dept. at Horseman Tokyo HQ. <office@horsemanusa.com> He was kind enough to send me by airmail a photocopy of the VH-R Owner Manual free of charge. Now on to your question. In the manual it says: If you are using a Super HORSEMAN 65mm F:7 or a Professional HORSEMAN 75mm F:5.6 for vertical picture-taking, the furthermost edge of the focusing tracks will be appearing on the picture. Therefore, loosen the rising front locking knob (D6) and align the red mark on the lens standard with the rising front control knob (D5). My words now. On my VH-R there is a white mark and that's what I align to with the opposing red mark. I have neither of the mentioned lenses but I do use a 65mm Grandagon so I use the adjustment with it. On my 47mm it's not necessary since I've adapted to bed to disengage from the bed arms so the bed can be dropped 90 degrees.
sal_santamaura
The need for rise to the dot only comes up if you're shooting 6x9. Users of 6x7 backs can leave the front standard in its down position. In that case the bed will not be visible even with a 65mm.
manfred_nehab
Hi! Living in Germany I had no problem getting an original manual. The distributor of HORSEMAN, the company PLAUBEL was so kind to send one for free (but nearly 1.5 years ago) Their phone number: Germany 6109 31018 (ref. Mrs. K|hnel, a very kind person!). They gave me a lot of additional typs (i.e: as a focussing screen they recommended BOSS SCREEN, very good but not cheap). greetings Manfred Nehab
