Hi everyone. I would like to be able to shoot outdoor fill flash

with the above outfit. Using the flash exposure compensation switch

at -1 stop seems to darken the background, but subjects at 10 feet

seem properly exposed. Am I doing this correctly, or can someone

explain an easier way. Thanks very much in advance.

Bill, you question is a common one that has been answered in the Rollei threads in this discussion group. However, the short answer is that you only get true (similar to Nikon, Canon, Hasselblad, etc.) fill flash if you use full manual exposure control in conjunction with the flash exposure compensation switch. In any automatice exposure mode (aperture, shutter or program), the compensation switch reduces the background exposure, while trying to keep the flash exposure constant. The examples shown on page 98 of the July '99 issue of Popular Photography magazine show the result of using manual exposure while reducing the flash with the compensation switch. The narrative discussion of fill flash on page 156 of this issue is in error when it states that this result can be obtained in any automatic mode.

I can't tell about experience with the 6008 but I'm using a SL66E with TTl-Flash, which has the same SCA-adapter and I have the same Metz.

One setup: I had to take a phote in a company and wanted to support normal daylight with the flash. The typical mixed light situation. I had to reduce flash in relation to ambient light so that the foto looks as if it is taken only with daylight.

To achive this I set the ASA at SCA-Adapter to that of the film + 2/3 to relatively reduce flash. Exposure I had to adjust to the ambient light. Though the object was much brighter than 18% grey I adjusted exposure compensation at the camera to +1. Exposure was then set to match exactly what the meter of the Rollei told me.

The result was exactly what I wanted to have.

Anyhow with the SCA-adapter for the Metz you have the ability to cheat the camera about the power of the flash.
