nicholas_mirro
<p>Does anyone know of a good quality swivel connector that would go between the Canon strap and these Optech Adapt-Its?</p> <p>http://www.optechusa.co.uk/photos/AdaptItsInstr.jpg</p> <p>I used these swivels by strapworks:</p> <p>http://cdn3.volusion.com/tf5kb.xfex7/v/vspfiles/photos/PSH12U-3.jpg?1392897097</p> <p>and just had a really bad day as a T5i and L lens hit the pavement after one spontaneously disengaged. Second time one let go, first was indoors and I caught it, but did not heed the warning.</p> <p>Damage was a jammed lens hood and some body scuffing. Thankfully, the Canon hood could be disassembled with screws and freed. Everything seems to be working, though I am pretty mad at myself for trusting garbage to hold up expensive equipment.</p>
parv
Did Strapworks's self-closing spring allow the Op/Tech loop to slip out? For the sake of my own curiosity, is the hook-spring (Strapworks) part made of plastic? Op/Tech does not mention the material used for "Adapt-Its" ... http://www.optechusa.co.uk/pages/conn-adapt_its.html ... is it made of nylon or plastic? The connection of the tab (at bottom) seems vulnerable to fatigue to me. Feel free to correct me. OTOH, I would not mind using "Utility Loop" connectors instead ... http://www.optechusa.co.uk/pages/conn_utloop.html ... mainly because I have not seen failure to to abrasion wear of nylon loops/straps that I have used. I don't have any specific suggestion, but search for swiveling connectors in chain & fasteners, luggage straps, or animal leash sections; something like ... http://www.amazon.com/Industries-2146441-Swivel-Trigger-16-Inch/dp/B00YL1IR1I/ http://www.amazon.com/Chrome-Lobster-Trigger-Swivel-Leash/dp/B00YL1AASQ/ ... mind that those stainless steel connectors may ding the camera body. Or, just buy another strap endowed with suitable hardware ... http://optechusa.com/straps/pro-strap.html ... I have been using Sony A900 & Minolta 80-200 mm f/2.8, heavier than your set up, with Pro & Pro-Loop straps without problems.
stephen t
<p>I use the Op/Tech strap and the loops, except for the System A and B adaptors for the medium format gear. Never had a problem so far.</p> <p>I would personally stay away from those swivel hooks - as you can see, they are, or can be, and invitation to a disaster.</p>
Ed_Ingold
<p>Swivel hooks can come undone simply by turning sideways. The swivel itself is a weak point, and I've lost two of the metal variety (bag straps) due to failure at that point. I've also had D-rings come undone, unless the joint is welded or formed in one piece.</p> <p>I connect the strap to the camera using nylon loops. IMO, they are the most secure, immune from simply coming undone, and they don't scratch the body. Op-Tech straps have male-female clips which also seem very secure, even if one of the two clips breaks. I've had no issues with round or triangular split rings between the eyelet and the strap loop.</p>
parv
(Correction: the maximum load used with Op/Tech straps actually was: Sony A900 with vertical grip (1 or 2 Sony NPFM500H batteries), Minolta 80-200 mm f/2.8 HS, Sony HVL-F58AM or Minolta 5600 HS D flash.)
