wogears
Another question: The Seikosha SLV shutter on my new 90mm Schneider works correctly. It has, however, got a "mystery part" on it, the function of which escapes me. It is indicated by the arrow on these pictures. It's not the flash synch, nor the cocking lever, nor the aperture lever. It can't be the press-focus because, AFAICT, this type of shutter hasn't got one. Gentle pressure doesn't move it, and it comes out of a narrow slot in any case. Could it be some kind of self-timer? Once again, thanks to any and all who reply.

dan_fromm2
Wrong. It is indeed a "press focus" or "preview" tab.

Cock shutter, pull tab out. The shutter will open for focusing. Press shutter release, the shutter will close and the tab will retract. The diaphragm does not open for preview, as the Copal #0's does.

I'm reporting what the Seikosha SLV #0 that is temporarily on my desk -- it has to go back in the drawer -- does, I'm not speculating.

dan_fromm2
Noah, I don't lie. You are mistaken. And insulting.

I was surprised that the diaphragm opened when I moved the shoot/preview tab to preview. Not what I expected. But that's what it did.

Just for you I dug three cock-and-shoot Copal 0s and three Copal 0 press shutters out of the drawer. The cock-and-shoots behave as you think they should; the preview tab doesn't change the aperture. The Press shutters behave as I reported; the preview tab opens the aperture.

dan_fromm2
Les, said Copal #0, not #1. For more explanation see my post above, time 01:56 p. m.
don_gillette1
There seems to be a problem with terms , a press focus tab will open the shutter not the diaphragm this saves you from having to use a cable release and putting shutter on b to focus.
dan_fromm2
don, there's press focus and there's press focus. Some shutters with press focus open only the shutter, leave the diaphragm alone. Others open both.
