Is anyone else having trouble with printroom?

I left Printroom in 2010. In August of that year I realized they were behind several months on profit checks. I got the run around for a couple of months. Finally, I wrote them an email and told them they had two weeks to pay up or I would contact the Attorney General of California and the United States Attorney for their district, since we had a contract that was signed over the web, putting them in violation of federal wire fraud laws.

It occurred to me that due to the subjects in my galleries, they might think I actually knew the AG of California at the time (Jerry Brown, I didn't). I got all my money within a few weeks.

I moved on to Smugmug, am very happy and tend not to look back.

Seriously folks, there are way better alternatives to Printroom. If you're still with them, get out now. And you don't need an attorney to go after them. Wire fraud laws cover the web.

I have registered complaints with the FBI Fraud site, BBB, CA DA's office so we will see what happens. I have also consulted a lawyer. All of a sudden I am getting good tech support for the first time in three months, so maybe they are responding to many photographers jumping ship.Howerver, still no profit check.

Two friends are with them and have been for a number of years. Both are moving all their work elsewhere due to the payment problems that are ongoing. Once or twice may be understandable but recurring problems are not.
Can you say "pyramyd scheme"? That is what it LOOKS LIKE. Checks not sent out til more money comes in from someone else so they can pay you. Your money is not taken, the lab paid and Printrooms profit taken out while the balance is put in an interest bearing trust account. That is the simple and sensible way to manage the money. No one would begrudge them the interest, not even on two or three monthsl for small accounts under $100 while waiting to accumulate more so they would pay out.
Add in stories of some who have moved on and have not been paid their balance that is under $100 on termination of the business relationship. That is dishonest.
Printroom looks to be in financial trouble. Ongoing financial trouble. Not paying those who use the site on time shows this. Accounting software set to specific dates and performance paramaters would easily keep track of all the photographers, sales and money owed as well as keying the checks for them. Anything else is an excuse.
California Attorney General, Department of Consumer Affairs, Better Business Bureau - and whichever other agencies to be contacted need to be the subject of complaints.
I do know my two friends are moving to Smugmug and Zenfolio - one to each. So far both say the move was easy tho not painless as they had to re-do the whole setup again, one with more than six years of galleries with hundreds of events.
The downside for them? They now might have to deal with the photoCrazy guy who goes after those who post more than 500 photos for sale in any one gallery as he claims to have a patent for this for Internet use. Apparently Printroom has an agreement with him that some of the other hosting sited do not. One thing to be aware of and why some have stayed - so they don't have to pay extra to him each time a gallery over 500 images is posted for sale.

Printroom owes me almost $1,300 since December 2011. They are not honoring their own Terms of Service. I have filed a complaint about Printroom with the San Jose Better Business Bureau. To date, Printroom has BBB rating of 'D' on a scale of 'A'-'F'.
I also filed a complaint with the California Dept. of Justice here: http://ag.ca.gov/contact/complaint_form.php?cmplt=CL
I am also developing a database of Printroom photographers that are owed money. Please contact me with your name, address, email, how much you are owed and how many months past due.
Send it to John Touscany, jtouscany@sbcglobal.net

It's been almost a month since my last post. And the data I have collected includes ten photographers from Virginian to Hawaii that Printroom owes over $10,000 to. As far back as December, 2011. I know there are more of you out there. Please contact me with your information and I'll share with you what we have learned. Contact John Touscany here: jtouscany@sbcglobal.net Let's Get Paid!

It's late June, 2012 and the commissions that Printroom owes photographers continues to grow. As of this writing, it's almost $15,00 they owe photographers in commissions. These are the photographers that have contacted me after reading these posts. I'm sure there are more out there.

In all fairness to Printroom, some photographers have been getting paid, myself included. The ones that 'kick & scream' the hardest. Over $13,000 in commissions have been paid since March.

Yesterday, October 25, 2012 Printroom has sold it's Fan Photo Division to Brand Affinity of Irvine, CA. See here: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/brand-affinity-technologies-inc-acquires-170400414.html
And Printroom has rebranded itself as Professional Photo Storefronts, Inc., (PPSI). Under the same management. Beware of doing business with Professional Photo Storefronts as photographers are still owed thousands of dollars in past due commissions.

I am a high school yearbook teacher and have been trying to use Printroom as a way to fund the purchase of a much needed camera for the students. After several months of waiting I still have not received any responses except that my problem needs to be escalated. Their site says I was due a check in November 2012. Here it is Mid-April 2013 and still not a penny from them. I am in a economically depressed area and our sales are low - so I cannot afford to get a Photoshelter or other account. Printroom was supposed to be my way of helping buy the gear the school cannot afford. I am tired of handing over my personal gear for the students to use.

So has anyone had any resolve with printroom? I've been a customer for about 4 years and though I never had any problems, I can't even log on to the website now. Are there any other websites that would provide the same services? And what was the final thread on www.printroom.com....are they even in business still?
