refurbished canon 6D

I have purchased a refurbished T-3 for my son directly from Canon and a refurbished 24-105 F4L for myself thru Adorama for myself.

Both look and feel brand new, the only difference is the packaging was not the familiar red and white Canon boxes. They were packaged in a brown cardboard Canon camcorder box.

Refurbished means they can't sell an item as new, whether it was returned new over stock or demo models, they are checked by the manufacturer (Canon) and have a 1 year warranty. So I wouldn't hesitate to buy one again.

I purchased a refurbished (by Canon) 6D through B&H, and couldn't be happier. It had about 300 actuations on the shutter and came with the same 1 year warranty as a new one does. Some people say that a refurbished camera may be better than a new one, because it is actually gone over by a factory rep, whereas (?) only a certain number are picked from the assembly line for quality control. It makes sense to me, as I have worked on an assembly line myself.

Researching this same issue in early 2013 I found that some people would get a 6D with some wear or a few thousand shutter actuations. Mine arrived in like-new condition with full warranty. Unless Canon reset the counter on my camera, it started with frame 1. I ordered my 6D (body only) from the Canon store and paid just under $1,300 including shipping and tax.

I purchased a refurbished 6D from Canon about a year ago. Cost was around $1,300 without lens. Turned out that it had about 600 clicks on it and was in perfect shape complete with a one year warranty. It has worked like a dream with absolutely no problems. I have also purchased a couple of refurbished lenses from KEH with similar results. So far, my advice would be as long as the dealer is reputable, you can't go wrong with refurbished quality plus there are significant savings to be had. Go for it.

I purchased a refurbished 6D early last year. No complaints. Second refurb I purchased, my 40D was a refurb. The only thing you are giving up by buying refurb is spending more money for the same thing. There is nothing wrong with these cameras. Someone got it new, for some reason did not like it and returned it. Canon has a tech go over the camera and make sure everything is working correctly. It is a no brainier. There was not a scratch or blemish on the camera. Canon can not sell a returned item as new, so it sells as a refurb. They are refurbs, not broken cameras. You get a one year warranty, they still qualify for Canon Professional Services. They take photos as good as a new one. I have no regrets.

Cheers, Mark
