ruben leal
While the new 5Ds and 5DsR cought our attention, the also new T6s shows several major changes to the Rebel line: a price over US$1,000, top LCD display, Quick Control Dial, etc. Am I the only one thinking Canon's new customer verticalization may be the ending of the xxD (also known as "advanced amateur") DSLR series? Is there a market for an 80D after the T6s?
dmanthree
Maybe. What I'm interested in seeing is the IQ of the new Rebels. If it tops the recently released 7D II, then I would agree.

Did they upgrade the AF on the new Rebels, as well?
jim_larson1
The top price is $900 for the body... . which is less than the original digital rebel debut price.:)

I suspect the AF system is identical to the 70D. As for image quality -> I may well be wrong; but isn't it the same resolution as the 7DII? In which case I would suspect it is the SAME sensor, and therefore the same performance.

Not clear to me the future of the XXD line considering the feature set -> But I suspect the XXD bodies will be physically larger -> and that may be enough.
JDMvW
They've played much the same hop-scotching game with sensors, MP, etc., all the way back to the 20D and XT->XTi that I know of. I think we'll just have to wait and see, as always.
phule
The sensors in the new rebels do not have the Dual-Pixel AF like the 7D Mark II and the 70D. They are not the same sensor but Canon claims the live view performance is on par with Dual Pixel AF.
scottelly
I'm sure they'll put the new 24 MP sensor in the 80d, and then drop the price of the 70d to $999, sell this new T6s for 849 or even 799, and sell the new 80d for $1,299. Right now the 70d body is $1,099. They only have to drop it $100 to do what I'm talking about, and with the introduction of a new body like the T6s, I'd say something like this is coming. The 70d is not old, but it's been on the market long enough that it could be refreshed. I just wonder what they're going to do after the 90d has been on the market for a year. Maybe they'll stop making DSLR bodies by then and go completely mirrorless by that time.
robin_sibson1
There has always been some pretty neat stuff in each generation of XXXD/Rebel/Kiss cameras, but the continued used of a low-magnification pentamirror finder separates them firmly from the higher-end bodies.
