Bend Oregon area in mid April

We will be making a family visit to the Bend Oregon area in April of next year. I will probably have one or two days at most to spend on serious landscape and wildlife photography. What places near Bend would you recommend at that time of year that would improve the probability of getting some good images?

Thanks.

You are about three hours away from what might be the best sage grouse lek for photography in the country, Foster Flat, 8 miles east of Highway 205 and the Malheur NWR. This dirt road goes right through the middle of the lek, and they'll display to your hubcaps as well as each other. Of course, you want to be there by about 6 AM...this is also the height of the spring crane migration around Burns and the refuge.

Much nearer Bend, and good for things like white-headed woodpecker, Williamson's and red-naped sapsucker, are the Indian Ford and Cold Springs CGs, just west of Sisters.

Newberry Crater is near Bend, too. And the high desert museum has captive stuff like river otter and porcupine to view and shoot.
