Pro Trekker AW - Lowepro

I would like just to know if my Canon 500 4.5 EF will fit in the Pro

Trekker AW with the Eos 3 and the lens hood (reversed) attached. Will

there be any room for other stuff (80-200, 20-35, 50 macro, EX flash

or, maybe a Kowa telescope, instead)? Super Trekker AW seems a bit

too large for me. What about similar Tamrac backpacks (777 or nearby

models)?

Thanks a lot.

Hi Kajetan,

I just went to check out the exact thing at my camera ahop and found that it would fit with the body attached. The pro trecker as well as the nature trecker will both do the job. Your best bet would be to go to the shop with all your gear and try both bags as well as others and decide which is best for you. I agree that the Super Trecker is way too large.

Just a word of caution if you do much travelling by air. Make sure whatever you buy can be carried on. Airlines continue to tighten restrictions (see other threads here and the article on the main nature page) and the larger packs (Super) probably exceed the limitations of most airlines these days.

The 500/4.5 fits in the standard Trekker, but not with a body attached. I know that's not what you asked, I just provide it as a data point!

The Pro Trekker AW meets airline regulations, at least if you don't have so much stuffed into the outer packet that it sits too high.

(I own one)

Of course, there's no guarantee the airlines won't continue to downsize the largest bag you can carry on. Once, in Australia, while travelling on an internal airline they limited us to 4 kg carry-on. I almost ended up in jail (gaol?) over that brou-ha-ha! I was a very unhappy camper. It was a perfectly normal, Boeing-built 727, too. Happened in 1986...probably can't check more than 1 kg now if they're following the trend!

Hi Kajetan

I bought a Pro Trekker last month. It held a Nikon 500 f4 with f100 attached. Also in the bag, n90s. 80-200, 105 micro, 24m, 2 flashes, filters, cords, film etc. It met the airlines size requirements provided the straps are not tucked away. On one local flight on a smaller plane, the gate personnel wanted to take it and put it in cargo hold. I asked the flight attendant and she allowed me to put it in the crews' closet.

For lots of info on the bag, packing it, and traveling with it take a look at http://www.moose395.net/gear.html. You can also by the bag from this sight.

I just went to the photo store today to try out backpacks for my Canon 500/4.5L and EOS 5 with VG10 grip. The Photo Trekker AW just fit the lens with camera mounted, so the Pro Trekker AW will certainly work. I also fit a 300/4L, 75-300/4-5.6 with hood attached (should also fit a 70-200/4L or maybe a 70-200/2.8 with hoods reversed instead), 24-85/3.5-4.5, 1.4x and 2x Teleconverters and flash. The only thing lacking is room for a second body, but you can add an external Lowepro lense case which would free up room inside.
