Hi everyone
Does anyone out there know about any problems with the Canon EF on off switch? Mine does not lock into the on mode. I need to push the lever up always and hold if I need to shoot/. If I let the tension off I can not shoot until I hold the lever up
Thanks in advance

I have several EF bodies, and the On-Off switches on all of them remain in the "On" or unlocked position after the wind lever pops out to its stand-off position. Perhaps the linkage between the switch and the wind lever on your EF is sticking. Try pushing the wind lever in while holding the switch in the "On" position, or rocking the On-Off switch while holding the wind lever in the locked position. If exercising it doesn't work, you may have a broken part or adjustment problem. If you're willing to assume the risk, you could remove the top cover and attempt to repair the switch. Here's a link to a scan of the Canon EF service manual:

Gordon
I have found out the problem with the on/off switch
It seems at one point the lever to turn it on and off was loose and the previous owner just tighten it up
I opened the camera up by taking the top pate off then removing the on/off lever
There is a well for a ball bearing to sit in there for a locking detent which was missing
The back side of the lever is recessed for the ball bearing in the protruding arm of this lever
I used a ball bearing from a Canon G-III used for the speed selector detent which works out great
Now I know why the darn lever never stayed in the on mode
Thanks again

Thanks for that. Just what I needed to try to make one good EF from 2 faulty ones.
Word of warning, it doesn't tell you about a tiny ball bearing under the shutter speed cog. Luckily I found it in the carpet.
My issue now is the shutter speed dial won't mesh with it's cog.
