It's Nikon D300s and a (no name, 'generic') 85mm f/1.4 lens.</p><div></div>

<p>An early warm spell melted the snow, but its still too soon for foliage to appear on the landscape. This is the Mississippi and the Minnesota Rivers coming together near St. Paul, MN, with Fort Snelling on the right.</p><div></div>

<p>Here is a snapshot of my golden retriever T-Bone, who has just turned twelve years old (the darker one, in the back) and his friend Winston, another golden.</p><div></div>

<p>Ilkka, I've never seen (or even a photo) of an aurora directly overhead. What a terrific shot. I'd call it pyschedelic, but I'd be showing my age.</p>

<p>Steam trains, aka choo-choo trains, hold a special fascination for me. This is a narrow gauge vintage 1917 loco that runs in Leighton Buzzard, north of London that I popped up to admire last weekend.<br>

<p>Jim, I've only seen once before aurora that fill the sky like that in Southern Finland. In Lapland the situation is much easier for the aurora photographer though, but I guess I'm not committed enough to move there. ;-) I was actually going to photograph stars as it was a clear sky and new moon but then I noticed in the afternoon the increased geomagnetic activity reported.</p>

<p>Andrew, I love steam trains also. The sound is beautiful and they're so photogenic ;-) I sometimes visit London for work; it would be great to have the opportunity to photograph a steam train while in England. </p>
