t_tran4
Hi, is there much the st-e3 can do that the 600ex cannot do? I was looking to purchase the st-e3 transmitter for $300, but was thinking that for $200 more I should get the flash instead. I believe the 600ex can do most of what the transmitter can do... unless I'm mistaken. My rational is that for paying 40% more, I can get more than 40% more of functionality value from the 600ex. Does anyone use the st-e3 that can provide additional insight? Thanks.
will_perlis
<p>Near as I can tell, they both do the same job of controlling and firing slave units. But, as might be obvious, the flash also emits light at the expense of being lots heavier. </p>
r_smith2
My suggestion would be the Yongnuo YN-E3-RT @ $125. Does everything the ST-E3-RT does plus you get wireless 2nd curtain sync and the ability to use <Gr> mode with older DSLRs and it has a some what usable focus assist beam. It does not have weather sealing, it will drain your batteries if you leave them in while it is not in use and it will not wake the Slaves from time to time but these are all easily delt with.....do not use in wet weather, remove the batteries when not in use and a quick off then back on of the power switch restores full functionality.
