The Great Mirrorless Camera Auto focus Shootout

Recommended Posts

Motor sports is primarily deterministic motion and not that difficult for AF. (Provided I picked the right angles, I didn't have any trouble shooting at Limerock with a E-M5 & 75/1.8.) Non-deterministic motion like birds in flight, or any flavor of football, is much more difficult. It also shows up refresh rate issues with EVF's. Every tool has its strengths and weaknesses.

One key flaw with the "review" is to omit much lower end dSLRs, such as Nikon's D7100, which has essentially the same AF system as in the D4s that currently costs less than GH4 and XT1. Likewise, they should have included D5300 or even D3300 to see if these cameras can beat the bottom tier of the dSLRs.

No, the key flaw is not understanding that this is a mirrorless camera comparison not a "mirrorless is better than dslr" comparison. Regardless of Soundimageplus' gripe blog that does not address the comparison between the stated mirrorless cameras but merely mentions the video as he opines on a different topic and his representative images have nothing to do with action photography.
Applaud, complain or comment about the comparison between the specific cameras shown, the procedure, the veracity of the reviewer or the quality of the video but please keep on topic.

Such a comparison is plainly obvious. Why trot the D4s out if that wasn't the point? It's probably the key plot element in the MILC-vs-DSLR story which viewers want to see. Sorry but this is marketing not Consumer Reports...

I'm happy to disagree. Plainly marketing what? This store sells all these cameras. What, a slow Panasonic month so let's compile a video to move more of them? Could it be the Nikon is used since it has been the benchmark for action photography? You don't find it the least bit interesting to see not only how the cameras stand next to each other but how they stack next to the gold standard of action photography?

Photographers interested in mirrorless cameras want to know which camera is better for action shooting. Period. That's what I'm interested in. This video compares some of the contenders and reveals which ones of the selected group do best. At least for this type of action as Bruce points out. I don't know what viewership you reference but comparisons of MILC-vs-DSLR are almost as tedious to serious photographers as Film-vs-Digital.
