Dissapointed With The Site

Hi,

I'm very disappointed with this site, after joining I thought I'd get more advice through the critique's forum. The way I see it, it seems a bit clicky on here, and I feel very down when my images don't get a response, so I don't think its for me.
That's how I feel!
Kind Regards
Gary

I can relate. All internet photo sites seem extremely clique-y. One I have participated in for almost 10 years and every time I post a pic it seems to be ignored, yet some of the popular members posts pure garbage and it gets glowing reviews. I don't know what to say except that you are not alone.

Gary, don't give up quite yet. Like anything else involving humans, results are not always predictable. Try submitting your photos for rating (yes. those aren't predictable, either), and also check the number of views. If you have one shot with significantly more views than the rest (and you do), that must mean something, right?

Hang in there...

It varies with the questions asked and the way thiongs are mentioned.
I have had some bad experiences.
Thus can be due to several things.
Total ignorance on the part or the reasder ( respomnder)
I recently commented opn a method how tpo test a sdd card.
I said I had created a boot floppy to access a USB DEVICE. AND WITH dos UTILITIES WAS ABL;E TO USE SCANDIOSK TO TRET AND MARK BAD SECTORS.
the first response was the reader did not uinderstand whjat scandisk * na DOS) toolk was.
( format does not do a good job of marking bad sectors.

a couiple of years ago
I commented on LA CA city councill attemprting to bad or control comments made on a LA radio station.
I pointed out that a city or state afgencey has no authority. itr is a fdederaL MATTER.
for this comment I was severely pena;lized.
I was stating the LAW and how it applied.
It was interpreted aS a political issue.
neither p[oliticaL PARTY WAS MENTIOED OR IMPLIED.
FRANKLY based on this and coversatione on the telephone,
I believe that perople either cannot mread or understand what they have read.

there are many here who not only can read but have a vast fund of knowledge and can zero in on the problem and give a good answer.

Again Forgive typos./ they are working on my eye
but the good one still needs more help./

Whith so many already dead ( my aga and younger)
I am grateful to be around and still able to do anything

Walter DeGroot, I admire your persistence over your visual adversity and I do enjoy your informative postings. I overcame cataracts with surgery, my beloved wife has glaucoma and soldiers on with eye drops and laser treatments. There is no cure for glaucoma. I might add that this forum to me is not "clicky" and caters to many interests both image wise as well as to equipment and repair information.

Thank you all for responding, its reassuring to know that other's understand, maybe we could support one and other. Currently I'm having a problem with CS6 and an iMac, when I sort that out I'll pop back into this forum and see how its going. Walter take care.

Gary:

Please don't take it personally when your work doesn't draw any critiques or, indeed, any views. It's not at all a reflection on the quality of your photographs. I've learned the hard way to maintain a thick skin and to broaden my shoulders when dealing with PN. Besides, I suspect that critiquing images is basically a selective process; otherwise it becomes a full time job.

I think that, with time and perseverance, you will find that you have developed a following. It will pay off, I am sure. After concluding these remarks, I'm headed to your portfolio.

And, by the way, to add some balance to this thread, Walter is referring to a number of discussions that occurred in the Off Topic Forum. And I don't think her's being altogether fair to the facts by stating that he was not involved in a political dispute. Sorry, Walter, but I've seen your commentary on a number of issues, and it was highly politicized. Then again, so was mine, and so was the commentary from others.

oh I grant you That I have a political slant that
is not ther same as many ohtersw.
and that things on OT casn get heaterd.
But in the radio station/LA/ fcc ( federal issue.
it was technicasl and according to the way things are.

however in the past often beginners were mocked when they asked how to open an ond camera ( press the bump in the leather) the mocking seems to have gone away.
people do not even get upset when someone wants to mopunt a fd lens on an eos.
the answers are respectful.
Eyes0 you do not miss them untill they do not wotrk properly.

When I was new here, my photos got low ratings and no constructive critiques. I only allow critiques, not numerical ratings of my photos now. My images have improved. It takes some time to make friends here. If you give support, in time you will receive support. Having a paid membership with this website might garner more attention too.
