Gup
Finally I get to post some spring shots here. We were just starting to see light at the end of the tunnel when the temperature dropped to -6C and 5" of snow fell but the sun is back out and working hard again. These are from this morning.
I'm going to join the moon theme too. Although this one was from last week as we couldn't see the eclipse through the snow storm.

lex_jenkins
Jim, that photo with the Vivitar Series 1 70-210/2.8-4 reminds me - I used that very lens on my D2H on the blood moon the other night. First time in years I'd used that lens for anything other than closeups - the continuous macro focusing at the long end makes it handier than most "macro" zooms. Not a great combo, but the photos were better than I'd expected. I was using the interval timer to make a composite. Maybe I'll have it ready for next week.

BTW, an easy trick to prevent slip-sliding of the trombone zoom/focus ring: Scunci ponytail hoops, the thin fabric covered elastic bands. One on either end of the zoom/focus ring helps. They fit snugly, hold reasonable friction without binding, and they're thin enough not to interfere with the full range of the zoom ring.

jpalmer57
Lex, thanks. My Vivitar zoom is pretty tight, no real sliding. My Nikon 75-150 Series E on the other hand flops back and forth. Do you know if they also work on that lens?
lex_jenkins
I've never owned that Nikon 75-150 Series E. But this particular ponytail elastic should work. They're very snug - almost too tight to use on my hair, so I normally use the larger bands. I wish I'd discovered this trick when I had a Series 1 28-90, a very good lens that also suffered from trombone-itis.
