rodeo_joe1
I'm not sure what possessed me to attend a trade show armed with an old manual focus 50mm f/1.2 Ai-S Nikkor on my D800, but I'm glad I did after getting this shot of one of the models. The small image size from the audience pit forced a massive crop, which emphasised the f/1.2 "glow", while the distance gave adequate depth of field. It's a technique I'll probably use again now.

50mm Nikkor at f/1.2 on a D800, about 20ft from the model.

Gup
Part of a Niagara Falls collection from last month. This one at dawn. The -25C temperature caused the mist plume to rise hundreds of feet into the air and the river to mist over in a thick fog cloud. Shot handheld through a very dirty double pane window.

tombest
Managed to get out to a South Florida wetland this past weekend. Lots to see with all the nesting pairs of egrets and herons. This Great Blue Heron was busy transporting selected twigs and branches to the nest where its partner and chick were. Occasionally, there is the inevitable preening required to keep oneself pretty.

tombest
@ Shun. Is that a long-term test DF you are using or did you buy one? Also, after my last post regarding the TC14E and my 70-200 I have been using the lens without the converter. Much better results. Thanks.

ShunCheung

@ Shun. Is that a long-term test DF you are using or did you buy one?

Tom, that Df has been on loan to me since late December. In fact, it is due back to Nikon next week. It is also about time for me to wrap up the review. But it has been discussed so much already; there are few surprises remaining.

To me, the only advantage for the Df is that it is a fairly light-weight FX-format DSLR. Otherwise, without the Multi-CAM 3500 AF module or better, dual memory cards and video capability, it doesn't quite fit my needs. Since I upgraded from the F4 to the F5 back in 1997, I realize that I no longer like the old-fashion controls. To me, the Df is awkward to use.
kylebybee
My first wild life shot, I saw these driving, I jumped out of our vehicle and was walking/running toward them and also in haste forgot my tripod/monopod in the car. They weren't bothered too much that I was there. The caption should read D7000 instead of D700
