Gup
A bit of metal, a bit of texture. As I finished getting this shot a lady approached me and with just a touch of attitude said, "Excuse me sir, can I ask whyever you would take that shot?" It was one of those moments when I was really stuck for words. My wife thought it was wonderful and often quotes that woman years later. I'm still not sure, but I know I would take it again :)

sjmurray
An old coal power plant in our neighborhood was demolished last weekend. It hadn't been used for over 40 years. Interestingly, we noticed a "drone" high in the sky over the plant just before it was imploded, probably photographing the process.

sjmurray
Close up of drone. I like the resolution from the D7100! This was just cropped from the same photo as above.

sjmurray
The first shot after the explosion. You can see how quickly the building is collapsing. We're just seeing here the top of about a 4 or 5 story structure with a tall smokestack.

User_5050610
Ahhhhh, Kent! Take that lens cap off! That looks like a BNSF "Executive" paint job on the lead loco--pretty rare, ya know...of course, after a glass or two of the elixir--it could be the real horse...
Paul

JamieHarre
3/19/14
Nikon Buddies,
Wayne found an aging VW bus, there. Probably about a '66. But the crocheted tire cover is what really strikes me. Also striking to me are the contributions from Shash C, Rick D, Jon E (better pay attention to what you're doing), D.F., and Todd J (pier).
For my entries, though it may be uninteresting to everyone else, I bought this toy because I thought it would make a good picture. Maybe you'll agree, maybe not. The second and third photos are rotated one quarter turn, because I liked them better that way. All of them use a wireless triggered flash on the white paper backdrop, but notice the different lenses.

Matt Laur
Great stuff today, folks. Thanks for playing along on the textures.

And good catch on the demolition-watching hexacopter, Steve! I'd have sent one of mine up in a minute if I'd been there - you don't get to get aerial footage of that every day.
sasvata__shash__chatterjee
Jon Eckman, have you ever read Freeman Patterson's Art of Seeing books? You would have aced some of the exercises he leads you through. Great work on that toilet seat!

Karissa, thank you. I struggle with abstracts and unusual angles, very much a left-brained person. Every once in a while, I get lucky. In this case, being a couple feet away from the bottom of this huge ship with an ultra-wide, and the reflections on the copper hull helped. I like the toning and BW conversion, the texture and the positioning of the knots in your shot.

Jamie, I think they are kind'a cool :-)

Don, I'd love to see that one projected.
