finnegan
I let my 6008i sit for a year or more, all my cameras did - was not shooting much or at all for a time. Now I see the battery won't hold a charge - even just sitting for two days before I planned to go and use it. I assume it's the battery - and that was in the camera when I first bought it used, so I've no idea how much usage it had prior to my ownership. With me it has been light to moderate. More on the light side.
Before I go battery-hunting, (and I know they're hard to find you and cost about $100+), how do I know the charger is not the problem? Hate to buy a new battery and find the charger was the culprit. So thought I should check first. How would I tell, any way available, battery or charger?
erichiss
Which battery charger do you have and does the charge light come on or not? Or does it go yellow?
It's most likely the battery, as its not likely much goes wrong with electronics that sit, but the battery chemistry can. These old NiCads have been replaced by NiMH cells now at the factory. New batteries are expensive but better than the older ones, with higher capacity and less memory problems. You can also have your current pack rebuilt.

richard_fateman
A proper charge would start by totally discharging the NiCad battery and then recharging.
The Rollei charger you have probably doesn't do this. I have used a MAHA brand charger that worked better in this respect.
If you had avoltmeter or a multi-meter, you could look to see if the charger was producing some voltage (maybe 12 volts?) across 2 of the pins.
OR If you see SOME change in the battery level indicator after charging, then the charger
is presumably doing something.

OR It is also possible that the fuse in the battery was blown, which -- I think -- would prevent it from charging.
Good luck.
