jack_hagedorn
I just paid $8.00 at my local lab to get ten 6 x7 prints processed from a roll of 120 film. Does anyone know of a mail order photo lab that will do this for less?
gary_stuebben
If low cost processing is your primary concern, shoot E-6 material and send it to Sunset Color Lab, P.O. Box 46145, Los Angeles, CA 90046. They will return the transparencies sleeved (unmounted) for $2 per roll (no postage / handling for orders over $5.00). <p> As for color negatives, $8 per roll for C-41 developing and proofing of 120 is reasonable. Bear in mind that 120 is a professional format, and photofinishers who process 120 correctly assume that you want professional quality proofs. On the other hand, the really cheap photofinishers that handle only 35mm (or APS) assume you're taking snapshots with a fixed-focus point-and-shoot camera and wouldn't appreciate or pay for high quality. The difference between a cheap print and a professional proof is like night and day. So, in conclusion, the higher cost associated with prints from 120 does not relate to the format as much as the quality of the processing. You will likely always pay more for 120 processing, but you should be getting a much better product.
