andrew booth
Over the last six months I have seen the volume of posts to the digest increase, and the number of posts that I have had to delete has also increased. My aim in maintaining the digest is to keep the quality of questions and answers high. It's a virtuous circle - the more interesting the questions, the more likely knowledgable readers will keep reading and replying, and the more useful the MFD is for us all.
I intend to tighten up the moderation of the digest. I will delete posts:

If the answer to the question is obvious, or the poster could easily find the answer for themselves.
If there's a similar thread in the database already, or if the answer can be found on the photo.net site, manufacturers web site etc.
Which give insufficient information to enable an answer (try to give details about you, your budget, what you're using stuff for).
Off-topic posts. The MFD exists to discuss Medium Format camera equipment (defined as that which uses roll-film), and its use. More general questions may be better addressed to the main photo. net Q&A forum.
Commercial spam, multi-posting, excessively insulting posts.

I'd also like to stop For Sale, and Want to Buy posts from being posted to the MFD. The MFD readership voted to allow these back when the digest was on email only. That's no longer the case, and Philip Greenspun's photo.net site (where the MFD lives) has an excellent Classified section which is more suitable.
A few final administrative points:

Please use a descriptive title for your post, and categorise it correctly. The MFD search facility currently doesn't work, so this makes it much easier for others to find your thread in the future.
Remember that you can turn your emails on and off by visiting the alerts page.
When replying to a question, please find the original thread you're replying to on the web pages and click on the 'Contribute an answer' link. If you reply by email, either no on will see your reply, or just the original questioner.

Finally, I welcome comments - either post below, or email me.
Thanks,
morthcam
All very reasonable. I was one of the people who voted in favor of for-sale ads back in the email days; but I agree completely that photo.net classifieds is now the proper place. Many thanks to Andrew for all the unpaid time he puts in here -- he (and we) succeed in making this an informative, enjoyable, and mature forum. p_ll_stef_nsson
I have followed the MFD on & off for the last two years. It+s good, but, I am very disapointed, how FEW proffesional photographers are here.
Because special in travel, panorama and reportage the MF has been coming very stong in last years with new RF, and Panorama cameras.
All the best. twmeyer
That's PERFESHUNAL with ONE F... and why is that a disappointment? Not that I believe it. The ratio is certainly weighted toward amatuers, but they frequently have as much or more experience in years and variety of equipment application...
and what does THIS have to do with professional or amatuer?: "Because special in travel, panorama and reportage the MF has been coming very stong in last years with new RF, and Panorama cameras." ...t
and Andrew, I second the motion to place all FS and WTB in the "Classified section", it's getting pretty thick in the Digest...t
