Fujinon EBC m42 lens adapt to sony NEX.. Cut or Dissasemble?

Recommended Posts

I just found a lovely Fujinon EBC lens in their somewhat proprietary M42 mount.

For those of you who dont know, Fuji added a tab to the outside of their lens in order to relay information to the camera. This was back in the M42 screw mount days when cameras required you to manually stop down the lens in order to take the photo.

I tried it on my NEX-M42 adapter, but the proprietary tab gets in the way and it will not mount correctly.

Now I am in a conundrum. Do I take a dremel to the little tab and permanently cut it down, or can I disassemble the mount and reassemble it in a way that the tab is not sticking out?

Or do I buy an older Fuji 35mm body and relegate the lens to film only use?

If anyone has experience disassembling the lens, I would like to hear about it. I have worked on lenses before, but I prefer not to.

If you wanted to do it without modifying the lens maybe you could stack adapters? I know there are adapters like this for Fuji M42 to Canon EF and then you could put that on a simple (no electronics) EF to NEX adapter. I've never tried it but I don't see why it wouldn't work...
