gina_porter
My aunt bought this camera on sale at Walmart to replace an older Kodak Easy Share. She took some pictures with it and then took out the SD card and put in her Kodak and something came up on the screen about the card being reformatted. Now all the pics she took on the Coolpix are gone. Is there a way for her to get them back? She visited NY for the first time and a lot of the pictures she took are gone now.
Thanks for any suggestions and help..
User_4754088
I used a little program called CardRescue (on my Apple computer) to rescue the images from my Mother-in-Law's Coolpix camera after she formatted over them (in the Nikon camera), it might work for you. She had pics from her trip to London and was crushed when she "erased" them all.

Good luck.

Best,
-Tim
djolk
I have used Photorec pretty successfully in a similar circumstance. It really depends on how the camera formatted the card. Generally its a 'soft' format and the date is still there..
rodeo_joe1
I can thoroughly recommend a piece of software called 'RecoveRx' by Transcend, the card and flash drive company. It's obviously a service meant for their own customers, but it's free to download and will work with any make of card.

I've tried a number of other recovery applications, and this is among the best of them. Reasonably fast too! From past experience I can also say that if the card has been used to take pictures after reformatting in a second camera, then some of the original pictures will almost certainly have been overwritten. Best procedure in this situation is to immediately take the card out of use until some recovery software can be used on it.
gina_porter
Thank you all for the help and suggestions on software.....I told her not to use the card until we could figure out how to recover the deleted ones.. Someone at Walmart told her they could not be recovered but I told her we would try anyway.
