harry_belcher
Anyone any experience with Delta 3200 film developed in Paterson Chemicals such as Acutol/Aculux? What speed did you rate the film at? Alternative suggestions would be welcome.
ted_daughety
Harry,
There has been a thread going on CompuServe in recent weeks on developing Delta 3200. The principle discussants are John Hicks and Roger Hicks. Their experience seems to have been with Xtol and Microphen primarily, though Roger says he has 5 gal of DD-X to work with, apparently a new Ilford liquid product with particular advantages for the 3200.
The consensus seems to be that the Delta product is an improvement in every way over TMZ. They are finding true speeds in the 1200-1600 range, reasonable results up to 3200. Neither has commented about using a Paterson developer. Both are hoping that the newer product delivers even better results.
I'm hoping to lurk until they settle on their favorites before developing the several rolls I have in the frig'.
Ted Daughety
graham_patterson
I have 1 roll of D3200 for test at the moment. I'm guessing that Aculux is going to need around 9-10 minutes at 20C based on the IDII/D76 times for the other Delta films. I'm leaning towards 9 minutes at EI 1600. I'll do a zone test and see if I'm right. I need to do a similar test with D400.
Aculux used to be a favourite of mine with Tri-X.
john_hicks___
I'm settled on D3200 in Xtol 1:1 15'/75F for EI 2000 for now. Microphen also works fine although it's a bit grainier. Roger's enthusiastic about Ilford DD-X but I don't have any specifics yet. And no telling when us ordinary mortals will be able to buy the stuff. john_hicks___
Ted, Xtol 1:1 is working ok but I just have the feeling that it may not be the best developer for D3200. Better than Microphen imho but it's as if something's missing. Otoh it's far sharper and finer-grained than TMZ. My best results are Xtol 1:1 15'/75F for EI 2000-2400. This is about a one-stop push so adjust your EI to taste.
harry_belcher
I have now obtained the information about the development of Delta 3200 with AcuLux 2 from Paterson directly.
Dilution 1+5 at 20 Celsius Gbar 0.57: 800 ASA=9min, 1600ASA=11min, 3200ASA=13min, 6400ASA=15min and 12,500ASA=18min. They comment that pushing the film to the higher speeds will compromise contrast quality
An alternative is to use dilution 1+9 at 24Celsius and the times are identical
