Yes, it is the new 58/1.4 AF-S. I like it a lot; the colors are rich, the sharpness is good but it doesn't "shout" at you like with some other lenses that produce very contrasty fine detail but occasional artifacts in out of focus areas; with the 58mm AF-S the detail is there in the focused areas but it is more gentle and very smoothly transitions into soft out of focus areas. It is quite lightweight and the manual focus feel is nice. I'm very happy that Nikon focuses their effort on other characteristics than absolute resolution as most images are viewed on relatively low resolution platforms, mobile devices, computer screens, and small to moderate prints. The characteristics of the 58mm you can feel even at small display sizes but there is still plenty of detail which is seen in larger prints.

Great shots everyone. Well we have had some rain of late. Not the blowing hard rains, but a cool, light misty rain that just calls me out with the macro lens.

Stopped at Red Rock SP near Gallup NM for a hike a couple of weeks ago and this tree was backlit by the morning sun. I was so captivated by the silver leaves against the red rock that I didn't notice the tree was loaded with red berries until I reviewed the image during post.

00cBtV-543820684.jpg.3ef81f1127a1277c27b08c710d31d872.jpg

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. I haven't posted here much lately but was out kayaking in Florida with my brother on Monday. Took my D80,

recently aquired tokina 12-24 and its companion tokina 50-135 - this feels like a very good light weight kit for most of my outings though

depending I will add a macro. Saw a wide variety of wading birds, turtles, and the first gators (several) I've encountered in the wild.

Fantastic day of paddling!
