mike_parente
I sold my D300 with less than 5500 actuations to my cousin a few months ago. He used it for a few months and was happy. He was taking it on vacation and it gave him a message that there was no media card in it. There was one obviously in there but the camera was not recognizing it. He brought it to a local camera store in upstate NY, and was told it needed a card reader. He did not get it repaired there. He called me and asked me what he should do. I have no idea. Can anyone help with this. Where should it be repaired, and how much might it be to repair if that's really the problem....HELP Anybody?
Thanks
Mike Parente
Jeff Lear
I would recommend first trying another card to make sure the defect is in the camera and not the card. Occasionally, a pin will bend or come loose within the CF card slot (may be stuck in card, itself) which usually means replacing the card slot. Nikon has a factory service center in Melville.

Nikon Inc. BernardMiller
If the card slot is damaged/defective, it might still be economically worth getting the camera repaired. I'd say something like that *should* run less than $200. And even though it's a relatively old camera, the D300 is still pretty darned good. Mine's still running strong after two shutter replacements--and over 500,000 photos.
michael_bradtke
Have it checked by Nikon. With under 6K shots on it I would have it repaired. You can not buy anything with the build quality or AF quality for what it would cost to have it fixed.
ShunCheung
Right, I would shine a flashlight into the CF memory compartment on the D300 and check those pins. If one (or more) of them is bent, it can potentially be a costly repair, because of the labor cost to take the D300 apart to replace the socket. That is the main down side for traditional CF cards.
errol young
I agree with Shun. Happened to me. D70 bent pin. Nikon said $500 repair. I took it to an old-fashioned camera repair shop and they bent it.
