Where are the newest 503CW's

Recommended Posts

Since Hasselblad recently announced the discontinuance of the 503CW, I've searched for a store that might still sell one but have had no luck at all - at least by doing an online search. It would seem that the latest ones built should be available for sale somewhere. I have a 500CM and 503CX which were both purchased new and they work flawlessly despite their being 24 years old plus. I just had it in my mind that purchasing a new 503CW should get me through what I hope to be the next 25 years.

I had a few of them, brand new, sold one a couple of weeks ago (above the price I had paid!).
I still have a couple of them and no intent to sell them right now.
By the way, you do not need to buy a "new" one to be assured of good service for the next 25 years. Get one in good condition, specially look at the condition of the base plate where the magazine is mounted. Look for a "no question asked return" and some warranty. Recent cla would also be good.
Try to get the latest model (ISO 3200) as the electronics were improved and they are more convenient if you plan to buy a digital back latter.
When you have one, be sure to send it for a cla every 5 years or so and your camera will still work a a charm in 25 years. cla's of a 503cw are really inexpensive compared to most modern cameras.
A few hints if you want to keep it in good condition: do not slam the magazine on the body when mounting it. Instead, push the magazine's release button to gently mount it. Do not install or wind the film with the magazine mounted on the body, remove the magazine first.
Finally, if you really want to buy a "new" one, be prepared to pay a significantly higher price than the last Hasselblad price. Even used one are increasing in price since Hasselblad announcement.
