Kodak 35mm Film Canisters - History

The old aluminum film cans were great for pounding into mouse holes in the floor and stopping the critters from chewing their way into my darkroom.
Back in the olde days when there were real camera shops I bought a bunch of old Agfa film cannisters. They are built like battleships and I love them. I have 50 feet of some film I bought at Freestyle in 1992 and one of these days I'm gonna load some of those cannisters up and see if the film is still good. Living black and white, of course.

I found some Kodak canisters a couple months ago and I'm on the search to learn more about them. I've been checking out this thread trying to find out more about the canisters and I've come to the conclusion that the ones I have are different, though they look similar. They are much skinnier at 7/8" diameter and have flat tops. Both have Kodak embossed, one with a 'semi-colon" on either side of the word and one with a 'period' on either side. Any ideas as to what was inside these?
