Mobile apps primer?

Leslie,

I agree.

Charles,

I'm not sure how that would work unless people wanted to tie their mobile phone number to their PN account. I mean, I guess we could just have a pile of random images floating through like a slideshow. But there would be no way to connect them to anyone's account as they came in unless we knew user's mobile phone numbers.

Definitely not an article but I have these apps on my iPhone currently and in no particular order:

PS Express - self explanatory. I don't use it much rather I use Photo Toaster more often

LightTrac - great for determining where and when Sun/Moon will rise. Recently started using:

Photographers Ephemeris - which I am liking a bit more than LightTrac.

PhotoSync - very handy for transfering photos between my iPhone and iPad using bluetooth, say, when

I'm in the middle of nowhere with no cell signal and certainly no WiFi.

Koredoko - basic EXIF and GPS (on map) viewer

Exifwizard - another basic EXIF and GPS viewer. Not sure why I have 2 of these. Iuse Exifwizard more

often tho.

Cameratimer - handy single shot (1 s to 60 s) or multi-shot timer (up to 30 shots after a delay of up to 60s

with up to 30s intervals). Reviews are terrible because of crashing but works for me.

PhotoToaster - A photo editor I use all the time. Simple and fast. Can use presets or can fiddle if you

want There is a free version or 1.99

Fast Camera - insanely fast shooting. Just opened it up and before I knew it it had shot off 35 images.

Use it like motor drive. I got it when it was free. Don't know how much it is now.

AutoStitch - this along with PhotoToaster and Resize Image are by far my most used iPhone apps.

AutoStitch is a great panorama app. Can shoot directly, can select from an album. Love it!

Camera! - Overlays various composition "rules" thirds, golden etc as well as artificial horizon among other

things. Looks interesting but I haven't used it much.

PicShop Lite - another editor. Haven't gotten around to using it much as I've been happy with

PhotoToaster. If anyone else uses it I'd be curious to get an opinion.

Resize Image - I use this simply to resize images down to 700 horizontally for photo.net. It's basic, does

the job and is stable so far. I haven't explored other options too but I'd really like for a resizing app to do

batch resizing and to be able to create an album specific for output from this app. Maybe there is one that

does this and I just need to look harder.
00bF1y-514085584.JPG.eaef4fd66a3185b688bf98d942970380.JPG

Those are the two that I use the most. I also have an app called "Shot Control", but I haven't used it all that much. And of course, there's Instagram, which I have as well. Tired of that rather quickly, though. I'm sure that like any other social media there is the occasional good as well as the mediocre and bad...but with Instagram I just got tired of seeing shots of painted fingernails. Really!? I mean, if that's the dominant aesthetic, maybe it's not my crowd. ;-)

 • 4 months later...

"Snapspeed" had severely reduced the overall size of an original image (~13-12 mpx (2-3 MB file size) JPEG original of Sony Xperia TX LT29i) to just a bit larger than screen resolution . I did not realize it after using 3-4 times. I discovered it while comparing the edited ones with original & seeing them at 100% size. I failed to find a setting that would have not resized an image. No where in its "Overview" & "What's new" ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.niksoftware.snapseed ), the reduced image problem was mentioned.

Snapspeed has since been removed. Currently I use Photo Editor (by dev.macgyver) or built-in Sony Album one. (Apparently there is also one "Photo Editor" by Aviary, which I have yet to try.)

(I am too lazy to copy the files from camera to my 'puter to post here. One fine day perhaps ... )
