john_dowle1
I've seen that there is a tripod accessory called the Rolleifix, does it work with the 2.8C Xenotar or not ? Also to anyone who has a Rolleifix do you think it is a good accessory to use ?
John.
d_purdy
Yes it works with the C. It is good in that it gives support to the bendable back. If you put your camera on a tripod connecting only to the socket on the bottom of the camera, there is a chance you could bend the bottom slightly if you aim the camera down at the ground and put pressure on it. Or if you put the tripod with camera attached over your shoulder and carry it like that. There is no danger of bending the back if you just use it as normal sitting up on the top of the tripod looking out. The extra support of the Rolleifix comes from the two nubs on the front of the Rolleifix sitting into the two sockets on the bottom of the front of the camera.

The problem with the Rolleifix is that you have to be very careful putting your camera on it. Those two nubs on the front of the Rolleifix will almost certainly scratch up the bottom of the face cover. It will eventually make very deep scars. The other problem with the Rolleifix is that it is very easy to get the camera only half seated in it and not realize it. Then one little bump to the camera and it falls to the ground. Mine fell into a sandy ocean beach.

This is a photo of a Rollei scarred by the Rolleiflx.

robert_marvin
I've been using a Rolleifix on my 2.8E for many years. While I agree with D Purdy about the occasional difficulty of seating the camera in the Rolleifix, I haven't managed to mark up my Rollei like the one in his illustration. Of course my Rolleiflex, which I bought used in 1962, has LOTS of other scars.
d_purdy
I have been wondering if there is some sort of protective tape that could be put on the bottom of the front cover that would prevent scratching and would not damage the paint long term.
Dennis
jerry_lehrer1
Nah! It just takes an amount of carelessness to cause problems with the Rolleifix. It also makes the BEST attachment for a flash unit and/or a pistol grip.
The Rolleifix is the most essential accessory for the Rolleiflex (along with a lenshood)

dan_daniel2
Since no one mentioned it- the Rolleiflexes and 'Cords that CAN use a Rolleifix have a groove in the large silver metal ring on the bottom. The Rolleifix slides into this groove and pulls the base to its cast metal base.

Pre-WWII and soon after the war, Rolleis did have this groove in the base, so a Rolleifix can't be used.

The groove was added about the time that the 2.8C came out. I think that Rollei offered either replacement backs or replacement silver metal base peices to convert older cameras, in case oyu run into an older one that will take a Rolleifix.
