Advertising Company

Recommended Posts

Hello

There is an advertising company which wants me to photograph the subject and then give them that digital mages right there after shooting. They said their graphic people will use that image for an advert. Please help me on how to deal with such companies. Is it professional to give them the image just like that and what can be considered when pricing the image?

First make sure the understand what an unaltared image really means and ensure their "graphic people" know what they are doing with it. That will be important in deciding whether or not you shoot raw for example and perhaps even how you light the image.

If they are up to the challenge I would charge them a set fee or a time based fee.

You didin't say what the images are but I will assume they are legit. I would ask for a record copy and I would make sure all of the release issues are handled.

They basically want you to do a work for hire: you shoot, they take care of the rest. Since you'll never see another penny out of this job, charge something incredibly astronomical -- they want your skills, sell 'em high. The weird thing is, in a lot of cases, they justify how good you were by the (insane) price you charged, and come back to you again and again. Crazy, huh? Good luck with them.

Years ago I had a client that wanted me to shoot photos from a helicopter. I was fearful that something might go wrong and I would be stuck with no fee and a bill for the expensive helicopter rental. So I asked for a sky-high amount of money, several times what my normal rate might be ($175 per hour vs. $25 per hour). They paid it, and the photos came out great.
