mark_stephan2
I'm currently using a D300s and D700. I like doing in door sports where the D700 is an excellent low light performer and the D300s isn't. I'm looking into getting a D7000. Adorama sells it for $896.95 and a refurbished body for $749. Only difference seems to be in the 90 day vs 1 year warranty. Would you purchase a refurb and save a few bucks? With the money saved I could get the MB-D11 and a spare battery.
andylynn
Yes, but first I'd join the paid Adorama VIP program for $7 or whatever it is to get the free extended warranty.

In case you discover any issues, I would get it replaced promotly.
stephen_worth
I got a refurb D7000 from Cameta for $75 less than that. It was perfect out of the box. The refurbs have been double checked. The regular ones haven't.
Two23
I've bought two refurbished Nikons from Cameta Camera through ebay. I've been very happy with both, and had zero problems. My next Nikon will likely come from the same place, and be a refurb.

Kent in SD
NetR
The cameras are not refurbished by Adorama. They are refurbished by Nikon.
helen_oster
All Nikon refurbished units sold by Adorama Camera come with a 90-day return-to-Nikon warranty - which includes a 30-day returns period - and have been factory refurbished by the manufacturer.
They will have been checked over by the manufacturer by hand, inspected very thoroughly, diagnosed, and calibrated by experienced technicians, and could therefore turn out to be more dependable than a new item - which will only have been checked by a process of systematic quality control protocol (ie by random sampling as it comes off the conveyor belt).
Refurbs can have simply been pulled from the production line if something appears faulty, or if they haven’t passed the final inspection. Most of the time it is a very minor issue that needs correcting, nevertheless, once it is pulled from the normal flow of production, it gets flagged as a refurbished model, so you may get a unit straight from the factory that has never been used. (I have three myself, and for sure they were all factory-fresh!)
A refurb may also be an ex-store demo, possibly used in field tests or sales displays, or it may have been ordered in error and returned to the retailer (who can't then sell it as 'new' so it has to be sent back to the manufacturer for refurbishment).
In addition, Refurbs come into us with the firmware updates and latest fixes which were carried out at whatever stage it was at when we took delivery.
As Andy notes, above, you can join the Adorama VIP program http://www.adorama.com/pages/vip which is free, and then you will be eligible to purchase a 12-month warranty for $7.95.
You need to do this BEFORE you purchase the unit you want covered, but once you have the warranty in place it covers you for a full 12 months for EVERYTHING you buy from us for that year (provided it starts off with a minimum 90-day warranty).
I hope this helps, but you are most welcome to email me directly: Helen@adorama.com if you need additional information or advice.

Helen Oster
Adorama Camera Customer Service Ambassador
luis_g
I've bought one refurbished camera through Adorama. Zero problems. One of my best friends bought one, and also had no problems. I would do it again.

dorothy_kay
I recently purchased a refurbished D7000 from Adorama and unfortunately my copy was defective. Issues with exposure and auto focusing. I sent it back and decided to exchange for a brand new copy. At least Adorama is a highly reputable company.
Good luck to you
Dorothy
michael_bradtke
And just to give the other side I bought a refurbished D300s from Nikon. It worked right out of the box. In fact to well as you could not turn it off when there was a battery in it. I sent it in to Nikon for repair and had it back in 10 days working like it should. Better yet it would turn off when it was supposed to.

helen_oster
Following an email from a photo.net member, I need to update you; the 12-month VIP warranty is NOT currently available; I'm told that the plan is to re-introduce it in time for the holidays.
When it does come back, please don't forget that, as I stated above,

You need to do this BEFORE you purchase the unit you want covered,

Best wishes
Helen Oster
Adorama Camera Customer Service Ambassador
Helen@adorama.com
