mukul_dube
Good work, Jessica. My guess is that you aimed the camera to the right so as to avoid the window on the left.
jessica_jones7
Thank you Mukul! The original photo actually had included part of the window. I printed this myself in the dark room and just could not break white with the window, so I enlarged it to crop it out for the print!
shutterbud
I've been trying to capture this small statue adequately for months and this seems to be the best I can do with my current lenses

mukul_dube
Good picture, but might be improved with a longer working distance and less work or none on the background. The lower background could be a straight edge of the table rather than a corner of it. I do not know how tall the statue is or the lenses you have available. Overly reflective surfaces can be dulled by pressing a ball of Plasticine against them -- or, depending on the light, by using a polariser.
shutterbud
Thanks for taking the time to offer those insights. Plasticine eh? Hhmm. Here's a different treatment, but it's obvious I can't get near enough to this with either my 14-42 PZ or 14/2.5. Mind you, I cannot justify buying a macro. The statue is only about 3 inches high.

mukul_dube
Unless these photos are heavily cropped, you don't need to get closer. If they are, then a simple close-up lens should give you the results you want.
shutterbud
They are cropped a little, but mainly on the side. I am not getting a macro lens. It's too much money to spend for very ocassional use.
mukul_dube
"Mind you, I cannot justify buying a macro" is what you said earlier. That is why I suggested a close-up lens.
