Well, looks like I'm the first Penguin in the water.
I got a couple of chances to find some of my favorite subjects, Amphibians!

Spotted Salamander, Pentax K7 100mm f2.8 DA at f11, with diffused Pentax 360 AFA

As above

Smallmouth Salamander, details as above but f14.
Lots more (mostly frogs). But I suppose that's enough amphibians for one day.

Thanks for starting Douglas!
I face an interesting photograpic challenge next week taking closeups of gem stones and jewelry for a friends new website. While I am well prepared with my macro lenses, I have to learn quite a lot about proper lighting and mixing soft and direct light to make the jewels and my results shine :-) This is a very small handmade amulet I took as test shot :-)

00bSWU-526055584.jpg.12be8e7c9e912aead4196ff0c98eea74.jpg

The news here is that I got me a Q (and some accessories like the K-Q adapter) for my birthday. I'm in the early get-acquainted period--reading the manual (torture!) and trying to get over the habit of slapping it up to my face as if it had a vf--but so far I'm liking it. Part of the lure, of course, was the potential reach (needless to say, I'm looking forward to pairing it up with the 1000/8 "Black Dragon") but I'm not expecting it to replace my K-5 for wildlife photography. I'm more interested in it for sneaky candid portraits (the 15-45/2.8 should arrive this week) and casual-carry purposes.
Here's one of my first shots with the 5-15mm zoom:

This one demonstrates the casual-carry usage: I took it along on a college visit with Clara. The shot was hurried but I pretty much got what I wanted [1/50s, f2.8, ISO 500]. I'm surprised by the absence of of camera shake, btw.
The Assassin

Here's one of my first long-reach shots--with the Tamron Adaptall 300/2.8. I had to dive back into the manual after this one to figure out how to manage the exposure settings (unfortunately, the Q doesn't offer a TAv mode.) It was pretty underexposed but shows promise.

Matt, your shot looks like it was taken on Alpha-Centary. Cool.
Dave,
Interesting. That makes the Q an interesting potential backup camera for me. It would sure save the weight over two SLRs. I'll keep an eye on what you find out about the combo.
Of course someone will come up with a 67 to K to Q setup and a huge 67 lens. that would be a riot!

I haven't been too inspired lately. Now that the sled is on the mend, I'm going back and processing a lot of shots. I finally took the camera out riding last weekend. Here's one from Sunday.
Pentax K-4, smc PENTAX-DA*50-135mmF2.8ED[iF]SDM, 1/200s, f/9.0. ISO 400
<a title="Yumpin' Yiminy by Fnawzm, on Flickr" href=" Yumpin' Yiminy src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8506/8563230711_7a3a049025.jpg" alt="Yumpin' Yiminy" width="500" height="333" />

I was stuck at home this weekend baby sitting 3 of my grandchildren. I decided to try out some of my old glass on the K-30. so seeing as I was playing more than anything I have no idea as to my settings I was more interested in learning focus peaking and just what the different results with three different lenses were . here are three shots one from each of the lenses I was using. I think I am going to like this Focus Peaking thing. :)
The first one is sunrise from my deck

00bSeG-526183684.jpg.80081a129062c8f6c631354f11865bfe.jpg

Very nice work, Matt B.! Love the first one with the big moon especially.
Here's mine. On a trip to a small town near Bangalore. This is a Hindu temple with a bathing tank for ritual baths.
