How do you like the D600?

<p>I am thinking about getting the D600. I was kind of hoping to replace D300 with a D400 but have a feeling that it has been phased out or moved to D600. </p>

<p>I would like to know more about the oil/dust spots. How often are you having to wet clean sensor? I really do not understand how this could be such a drastic issue with consumers. I figured that everyone who shoots digital has to clean the sensor every once in a while. I guess I would have a problem if I had to wet clean sensor once a day for months. How bad is it?</p>

<p>I would also like to know more about weather sealing. I do not care that the front has been changed to polycarbonate. I would like to have weather sealing at least equal to my D300. I shoot a lot in inclement weather. I am fine with a top speed of 1/4000 sec. Not sure about the SD card, never used them? I will use 75% for land/waterscapes, 25% macro.</p>

<p>Lastly, would really like to know if anyone would trust buying this camera refurbished from B&H? I kind of feel like the reason for returns would be dust spots, if that was the case than you would be getting a camera with a cleaned sensor. Just do not like getting a camera without a Nikon warranty. Never had to send a Nikon back for a problem that was not my fault, but.</p>

<p>I had a pair of D90's and have shot around 80 weddings with them. Have just recently upgraded one to a D600 and love it. The dust spots did show up after taking around 3,000 images. A quick wet clean of the sensor removed them and after a couple more thousand shots there is still no sign of any returning.</p>

<p>Never had any issues with good quality SD cards. The price are coming down for them and I recommend you buy good quality cards and you wont have any problems.</p>

<p>My experience is that the main problem with SD is that they are too thin and fragile. I have cracked 2, 3 of them. It should not be an issue as long as you handle them with reasonable care.</p>

<p>I remember reading that the D600 has the same weather sealing as the D800 which would be at least as good as the D300. The weak point on all three being the pop up flash: thats' where water can get in. If I had to shoot in inclement weather with any of those cameras, I would use some sort of <a href="http://fotosharp.com/16_rain_cover_w_velcro_opening_.html">rain guard</a>. The 1/4000th of a shutter is only an issue when you <em>need</em> 1/8000th! The D600 has a low ISO of 50 which is one stop lower than a D300, so exposure wise you can do the same thing. My D600 definitely had a dust issue and I sent it to Nikon after a few months for cleaning. So far so good. I am not a huge fan of SD cards myself, but it is what it is. While I really like my D600, I simply love the ergonomics of the D300. So much so that instead of a 2nd D600, I might see if I can find the funds for a D800.</p>

<p>I'm still holding out. The D600 seems overpriced for what it does. I'm still holding out for either an upgraded "D7200" or a D400. The odds seem pretty good that the D7000 upgrade is getting close, possibly with 24mp.</p>

<p>The D7100 looks good. However, for those holding out for a D400 this is just one more reason to know that the D300 has been phased out. If I am not mistaken 13/14 DSLR's have been introduced since the D300 debuted.</p>

<p>I am lving my D600.. coming from D90 and D7000. No more back focus issues of D7000 :)</p>

<p>A friend of mine dropped his D600 from 1.3m on a timber floor twice. No harm done! </p>

<p>I am pretty happy with mine. Like every camera before, there are some compromises with the design and a few things I wish it had such as the D800 AF system and 1 button 100% zoom, but I do believe that it is the best value available in FX sensor size cameras. For what I do, it is about a toss up as to which camera I would pick between the 600 & 800 (and I do have access to a D800). If someone does not like their D4, I probably would swap for it, though!</p>

<p>Have not had any problems with the SD cards yet, was just thinking about getting some more. I always use the 2nd in backup mode just in case. I have a little dust/oil, but it does not show up unless I test for it. Am close to 10k shots. The AF system seems to be accurate and responsive, but it is easy to see if focus is off a little with the 24MP files at 100%.</p>

<p>I had my sensor cleaned after 800 actuations. Afterwards, after just a few shots, I could see dirt again. I'll wait for a while until I visit Nikon again for a second, free cleaning. Then we'll see. Maybe my shop will give me a new sample if two cleanings aren't enough.<br>

Apart from that I'm happy with the IQ. The sound of the shutter is quiet, which i love, and I think is pointed out far to little in the discussions about this camera. I could wish for better AF sensitivity in low light, though.</p>

<p>I absolutely LOVE my D600!!!! Amazing sensor. Purchased Jan 3, 2013. Still clean as a whistle. Do I expect to have to clean the sensor (AA filter)? You bet!!!! Standard procedure on just about any DSLR after 2-3,000 shots. The dynamic range, color bits, and high ISO performance from this sensor is simply amazing. In fact, it made me upgrade my lens stable:<br>
